The rest of my quirks

If you scroll down a bit, you will find the first part of this tag.

5. I cannot stand to have the TV on in the daytime. I don’t watch any news or weather or Oprah or Dr Phil or the Price is Right or soap operas or Judge Judy or QVC or Emeril or anything else. A TV being on just makes my whole day wierd and makes my brain feel disordered and intruded upon.

6. I wear the same clothes for years. Not without washing them of course – I am not THAT wierd. I hate new clothes – they don’t feel right and it takes forever for me to feel good about them. And by then they aren’t new anymore, so I can love them. If I have to buy something new, I try to find the same thing I had before, like the same brand and style of jeans for instance, because I know I will like them.

7. I am weird about grocery shopping. I like to go to the same few stores because I know where everything is and can get through quickly. One of my usual stores is remodeling and expanding right now and I am not going back there until they figure out where everything goes and they leave it there, so I don’t have to keep looking for it all over the place. I make my grocery list in the exact order of where things are in the store. And when I put my stuff up on the checkstand belt, all of each type of item must be together – all the dairy, all the meat, all the fresh veggies etc – so that it has some chance of getting bagged together, which makes it easier to put away when I get it home.

I have already tagged lots of people for this particular meme, so I will leave it to you – do it if you like and let me know so I can come and share in your quirkiness.

7 Quirks – proving I have no end of wierd stuff going on …

Julie tagged me last week
When I last got tagged for this, I asked my family members to tell me if I had any quirks and they all confirmed what I already knew and that is that I am like the most sane and normal person on the planet. If you look up sane and normal in the dictionary, you will find a picture of me. Yep. Anyway – Ellyn was late with her entry, so not only was she not eligible for the grand prize drawing, but her submissions did not make the cut. I saved them though, because I knew – just knew, that a fascinating person like me would surely get tagged with this sucker again. These first two are from her:

1. “That you and Dad are always in the same position, relative to each other. He is always on your left – he sits to your left at the table, he sleeps to your left in bed, his spot on the livingroom is to your left.” In my own defense, I don’t do anything to make this happen – at least not that I am aware of. I am pretty sure this is Larry’s quirk, the more I think about it.

2. “You have a thing about small children rolling up their sleeves when they eat. Now some things I understand, spaghetti, pudding and the like. However I don’t think its necessary to push a child’s sleeves up to their armpits while they eat Cheerios.” Whatever – I think a lot of adults ought to be rolling their sleeves up more too.

3. Not really a quirk, but I have a little speck of green crayon under the skin on my left index finger. It is there to prove you should never stick a needle through a green crayon [or any other color I imagine] because your Dad saw you doing it and told you to stop and you waited until he wasn’t looking and did it anyway and it went right through and poked into your finger. And you can’t even seek medical attention because then you will be busted and you get in enough trouble as it is, so even though your whole finger will probably rot off, you don’t say anything. And my Dad will read this and probably still think I should be punished and he is probably right. There is no statute of limitations on these situations.

4. Again not a quirk, but I have odd half-moon shaped scars on my index and middle fingers on my left hand. This is also from not listening when one of my parental units told me not to do something. In this case it was not messing with the key and metal strip left after opening a can of Spam. We had no doubt enjoyed the aforementioned Quik-nik for dinner that night and I was supposed to be working on getting the dishes done when I was overcome with the temptation to straighten out the little springy strip of metal that was the method for opening cans of Spam way back at the turn of the last century when I was a child. When it was all said and done, I had odd little flaps of skin on the tips of my fingers, and a tetanus shot since tetanus was likely to be running rampant on Span cans and American kitchens at that time. And now I have very distinctive fingerprints that do not require any sort of computer analysis to be indentified as mine – this has often prevented me from commiting crimes I am sure.

I still owe 3 more quirks and I will be back with them later on today – for now you can just mull over these and decide if you even want to visit the blog of such an odd person anymore. And I had to peel Riley out of my computer chair this morning – not sure what he was up to, but whatever it was, he didn’t accomplish it. He is a bit under the weather actually – we can talk about that tomorrow though.

Wednesday again already?

Time flies, huh? Especially when your house is overrun with short people who like to be tickled and want lots of hugs. They have also covered my entire house with toys and every surface in the kitchen is covered with the required paraphernalia for preparing and serving their food. Anyway – here are a couple shots of them that I like and a few other things that got in front of the camera lens this week. As you can see, they are worth any amount of clutter.

Mark has new boots – I want a pair in my size!

Taking pictures of humans is harder than rocks and birds and snow, but some of them turn out ok.
Bubbles in the creek – lots of these this week, since it is raining raining raining. In between snowing, sleeting and freezing rain of course.

More doves – probably an old married couple out for a bit of sun on a winter morning.

More results of the rain – drips from the roof.

Some cones on one of my favorite trees in our yard – a tanyosho pine.

Have a great day!

I have company

You will have to forgive my air of distraction for the next few weeks. It is not just that I am a besotted granny enjoying her grandchildren, who are beyond a doubt two of the fabulous human beings on the planet. It is also because children are given to the young for a reason – they take up one heck of a lot of adult energy! Here they are, for your Monday morning viewing pleasure:

Riley Speaks

Okay – Mom is busy in the other room, so I have time to get your questions answered.

Flea asks: How do you get along with all the critters inside and outside the house? I’ve seen squirrels and birds and stone bunnies. My dogs spend their day barking at other animals. And I hear there are multiple critters in the house as well – things like cows. Are you jealous?
I like cows. I like to sit on the porch and bark at the ones across the road. But don’t get close to cows, because they are BIG. Much bigger than they look from the porch as it turns out when you get a little closer. They look mean too. I could not believe it when Mom took me near them – I insisted on coming back home immediately before one of them could hurt her. The cows in the house are not big or mean, so they are fine. Not much fun to bark at though.

Ashmystir asks: Where can I find a dog that looks as cute as you? As smart as you? I mean my dog Dixie does not even know how to type but you run your own blog.
There are dogs just as cute and smart as me in every shelter in the country. Lots and lots. I found out how to do blogging stuff by reading up on it on the internet – I think any dog with computer access could figure it out.

Kathy and Charlie ask:
Riley, my big brother Chance hates all this snow & ice, but I love it! But I don’t like to go outside without him! What should I do? Mom gets tired of letting us out and back in all the time so I can romp around. Chance just wants to sit on the deck and bark til Mom brings him back in.Your friend in Iowa, Charlie
Well Charlie, I am afraid that if Chance is sure about not liking snow, there is probably nothing you can do about it. He sounds like the kind of dog who retires to Florida when he gets old – maybe your Mom & Dad would go along with that and then the two of you could romp together again. I love snow and I would love to romp with you but I think Io-way is a long ways from NY.

Kourtni.K asks: Didn’t I read somewhere that you’re going to have a bunch of grandchildren living there for a little while? What do you think about that – will it be fun?
I love grandchildren! The main reason I think, is that they taste good. The big one often tastes like peanut butter and the little one tastes like bananas. All the grown ups kind of freak out when I lick them, but the kids think it is great fun!

C. Witt asks:
Riley, do you ever travel to Texas? You look pretty worldy. If you do, let me know–I think you would get along with my buddy Bella.
I do get to travel sometimes. Lately though, I have gotten to go and stay with my Uncle Jeff when Mom and Dad go away and I like that a lot better. Uncle Jeff lets me lick the bowl after he finishes his sherbert. [He gives me other people food too, but don’t tell Mom and Dad.] Maybe Bella will be in NY sometime?

imbeingheldhostage asks:
Ok Riley,If you could travel to anywhere in the world, where would you go? And what do you think makes a great vacation (ie: the food, the company, accessible trees, etc)?
Good vacations are because of the people, I think. I like my vacations at Uncle Jeff’s a lot. And I like when we go a visit other people. I like a wide variety of trees too and they are everywhere!

Kellan asks:
Hi Riley – you are looking very cute today, btw!! Who is your favorite human? Is there one you like better than the other?
Aw thanks – I like to think I look pretty cute every day actually and I am glad that you noticed! I have to admit that I do love my Mom more than anyone else. She saved me from an awful place you know and I know she loves me even if I make mistakes sometimes. I am also very fond of anyone who has some cookies. Do you have some cookies?

Julie asks:
Do you ever think of escaping? Maybe something crazy like running off with the pooch down the street and living the high life in Mexico?
You know, that looks like a good idea on paper, but I was a street dog earlier in my life and it is not nearly as good as being a dog with a family. I guess Mexico will have to wait, but I would not mind hanging out with the pooch down the street…

CM asks: does Mom really do all that gardening herself?
I took out all that stuff about Mom and how she looks and everything – cause this is supposed to be about ME! I can tell you that she does do all of her own gardening, except sometimes, Dad helps with digging holes. For some reason, I am not allowed to dig holes, though I think I do an even better job than Dad. When I see someone digging a hole, it often makes me have this terrible urge to dig one myself – usually I have to go in the house then though, so I am trying to break my hole digging habit. I don’t know why Mom and Dad can dig holes but I can’t – doesn’t seem right to me, but what do I know? I’m just the dog. And since this question was about Mom, you have to send me cookies now.

Tara asks:
Do you have a girlfriend Riley? Does your mommy take you on doggie play dates? Does your mommy ever make you wear little doggie outfits? Do you ever get so excited you pee on the floor? Just curious :)
I am a very manly dog and I do NOT wear any kind of outfit. I have a very handsome [and manly] collar, but that is all. For holidays, I might wear a seasonal bandana, but only if I can’t reach it to chew it off. I would never pee on the floor – I am a grown-up dog! I do have doggie friends – my cousin Abby is fun. And later today, Daisy is coming to stay with us for awhile. This is us when I was visiting at her house – we are going to have fun!

Okay – I know I didn’t get to all the questions, but I will catch the rest of them next week. My poor paws aren’t used to all this typing and besides, Mom is acting really suspicious, so I want to get this posted before she discovers what I am up to. Thank you all SO much for being interested in my life and what I have to say. I never imagined that you could all be so nice. have a great weekend!
