Back to —- reality?

I guess this is reality. I am still not feeling terribly chipper, but it is back to work for me. I don’t have big plans for this week blog-wise. It is still more or a less a holiday week, even though I have to work, so don’t look for huge doses of high quality humor. [like you would be coming here for that normally, right?]

Despite the last minute gift of the stomach bug they had all had just before we got there, we had a great time up north. We all missed Lauren and Steve a lot, which put a bit of a damper on things, but we got to have nice long chats with both of them which helped a little. Now that Lauren only has 4 months to go, we are all getting very antsy for her to be back home again.

And because I am a Grandma, you have to see at least a couple photos of TWMFG*
We have a very laid-back approach to opening gifts. We do them one at a time and if you want to take a break to play with something, that is just fine. This truck makes the most horrifically loud chattering noise when you push it around. Makes me really glad it doesn’t live at my house. If you get tired of opening gifts the normal way, you can always gnaw on them awhile. So – cheer me up a little, ok people? Tell me something great that happened over your Christmas holiday.

They are so adorable. Don’t work too hard. No, really.

  2. Deb says:

I love the new approach to opening gifts! My little guy got tired of opening and just used one present to bang on for what seemed to be 10 minutes! Ahhh…grandchildren…aren’t they the best?

  3. Ari (Baking and Books) says:

I love the laid back present opening approach. My family does the same when we get together for the holidays. :)

    Adorable photos!

  4. Ellyn says:

You were here. That was pretty great.

See, Christmas is over and I am still being nice. And you said I would go back to my old bi**hy self.

  5. Ellyn says:

Also, I love the background to Anna’s picture. Makes it look less messy. Always a good thing.

  6. Daryl says:

    Aw ..

Take it easy, nothing so important it wont wait …

Thanks MentalP – I shal take your advice to heart!

Deb – we always did it that way when our girls were little – makes for a calmer day and at times it helped hide the fact that Santa was maybe a little broke that year, cause it took so long to open everything. ;)

Thanks Ari – they are adorable kids!

Ellyn – it is always easier to dejunk a background in a photo than in life – as my own house can attest!

Thanks Daryl – unfortunately, my company does not agree with this philosophy.

    Great photos of TWMFG.

Let’s see, something good that happened during my holidays.. You already saw my heirloom dishes. Ok, here goes. I took a chance on buying Michael a CD. (Enya’s A Day Without Rain.) I knew he liked Enya, but he hadn’t been crazy about her second album. Anyway, I knew only one song on the CD but I took a risk. He’s listened to it about 8 times. He loves it. Oh, and I love it too. I’m smiling just thinking about it.

Sorry you have to work this week.

  9. Country Girl says:

I’d probably get too antsy at the pace of the gift opening process at your place. However, if I was consuming quantities of Croft’s Sherry (which I love to do during gift openings) then I’d be fine.
Your grandbabies are gorgeous, btw and thanks for the asterik explanation.
My holiday week continues to roll. I don’t have to be back to work until January 5 and have been doing small things with my husband like taking drives and walks with George. Nothing too exciting, although I’ve been looking for a friend to go to Longwood Gardens with me and can’t find any takers. I guess they don’t want to pay the steep entrance fee of $16. BUT IT’S JUST SO FRICKEN BEAUTIFUL!!! I tell them.

  10. Flea says:

Your grandkids are so beautiful. :)

Something great over the holidays … I came home with the petrified wood bookends I’ve been asking my grandmother for for the last 15 years. As a bonus, she sent home with me the cranberry glasses and a pretty glass pitcher.

No major meltdowns by my husband, he who is grieving Christmas Past. That’s such a relief.

The kids didn’t get a whole lot, but they are content. They enjoyed just being with family this year. I love that they’re old enough to make that transition.

    Feel better, Dlyn!

  11. Bear Naked says:

Hope you are feeling a bit better now.
