Hi – I’m Donalyn Ketchum, and welcome to my blog! I’m 57, and my husband and I live in rural upstate NY. We are empty nesters, truly enjoying what we consider to be the “good life”. On our two acres, we are growing as much of our own food as we can, and this blog is largely devoted to the recipes that I come up with, using the fresh ingredients my husband brings in from the garden, along with some “imports” like shrimp and wine. You can check out the the Food and Garden links, at the very top of the page, to find out more about all of that.
In addition, we have two grown daughters, two sons-in-law and two grand-kids. Every one of them is fabulous beyond description, and we all spend as much time together as we can manage with the busy lives we all lead. I’m proud to say that both of the girls are very good cooks in their own right, and they both garden as well. The grandkids are beginning to show an interest in growing what they eat too, so it’s very gratifying to be passing along traditions of self-reliance.
In the past, I have worked from home in a number of different jobs, including customer service and tech support, as well as working as a free lance writer and editor, which I still do from time to time. Mostly though, I’m a blogger, and you can find me in a number of places, which are linked at the top of the sidebar. I am available for free lance writing, corporate blogging, and recipe development – just shoot me an email at the address below.
I hope you enjoy your visit here, and come back often – there is always something new to see!
I would love to hear from you, so get in touch if you like:

Mrs. Ketchum: I’m so jealous of you and your husband. I’m from Lewiston, NY. My grandparents offered a great garden that I used to wotk on. I often wish I could return to upper state New York. I have a small garden now and unfortunately live in Houston, Texas. I’m 62 years old. My wife and I have been married 30 years and have three grown children. I love your web site and will have to try some of your recipes.
