Free Christmas Music

Did you know that there is an online retailer that gives away free music every single day? And that this time of year, they offer tons of free Christmas music? It’s true and you can find it here: Amazon.com Free Christmas Music .  I am a functioning Amazon addict [hello, my name is Donalyn and I love my Amazon Prime account more than life itself] and I make a habit of checking out their free downloads all year long.  We have found some great music we had never heard before, as well as picking up free or very low cost downloads by artists we already knew. Companies put out free samplers in the hope that if you enjoy hearing a song or two by a particular artist, you will be willing to drop a few bucks to hear more.  They definitely make their money back on me, but you can just enjoy the free songs if you like – there is a long list of individual songs and a few albums as well.

Some standouts on the list:
Christmas Anthem by Landon Smith and The Real Matt Jones

The Incredible Singing Christmas Tree Veggie Tales [free album]

Angels We Have Heard on High by Point of Grace

White Winter Hymnal by Fleet Foxes

O Come All Ye Faithful by Abandon Kansas

I’m Your Santa by Lil Ed and The Blues Imperials

O Holy Night by Steve Pasero

There is one particular deal, that while not free, is still pretty amazing. It’s called The 99 Most Essential Christmas Masterpieces, and it is only $1.99. There are lots of nice choral and classical selection on this album – it would be pretty background music for Christmas dinner, and for that price it would be hard to go wrong. If you are skeptical that anyone gives away anything worthwhile for free, you can listen to the tracks before downloading and if you have never downloaded music from Amazon before, don’t worry – it is an easy process.

While you are right there, you might want to check out a few non-holiday gems.  Ryko: Flash of Light Sampler is a great find- all artists I hadn’t heard of before, and Peter Bradley Adams Sampler is a great intro to an artist I’ve been enjoying since I discovered Eastmountainsouth, his one album project with Kat Maslich-Bode.  You should know that Amazon’s free downloads can change from one day to the next, so some of these may not be free for long.  They also maintain a list of $5 albums each month and this month, they have two lists:  $5 Christmas Albums and $5 Albums for December . I hope you find at least a few tunes to help make the season bright in your corner of the world – it will make me feel better about ridiculous number of them that I downloaded.
