Blog Mission Tour

I read a lot of different kinds of blogs. Photography, gardening, cooking humor, music, personal, spritual. This has become a recent favorite. She is doing a blog tour this week and I decided to participate. The challenge is to create and share a “mission statement” for your blog, publish it and link to the tour so that others can come and share in what you are doing.

I admit to struggling with this somewhat. My blog is not overtly Christian after all. I am at a loss when it comes to a exact description actually. So, I have been thinking about it a lot since first seeing the post about the tour. For awhile, I decided not to participate at all, because it seemed like I would not fit. But the idea would not leave me alone and I usually consider that a nudge from the Lord – kind of shoving me in the direction He wants me to go. Often, this consists of Him hurling billboard-sized “signs” in front of me – repeatedly, until I get it. “Really, Lord? Are you sure?”

On the other hand, people often seem to realize I am a Christian, without my actually having to bring it up, and I guess that is a good thing. And it is not that I am not capable of constructing a blog that would be centered on writing about faith and the struggles inherent in a deep walk. I have taught/lead Bible Studies for years and have published articles on a wide variety of Christian topics. Doing that genre of blog just isn’t what this one seems to be about. There are many many people publishing wonderful blogs about their faith and aspects of living as a Christian in this fallen world. I get a lot from reading them. But this blog is what seems drawn from me these days.

So, what is my “mission” then?

I think it is this: To share my joy in what God has given me. He made a very big world and I occupy a tiny piece of it. I’m grateful for what I get to share in His creation and every day, I try to find a way to convey a bit of that to those who come to visit. His gifts to me are mercy beyond measure and far more favor and blessing in my life that I could ever come close to deserving. If I can share a little bit of that with some friends, old and new, then I will consider my blog a success.

You also might want to check out Becoming Me’s blog and consider joining the tour – it makes you think about what you are doing and is definitely not limited to Christian blogs.

Oh Dlyn, you summarized the purpose of this tour so well. Everyone is created with value and purpose and there are missions behind everything we do. Not all of those missions are lofty, but examining them makes us really hone in on the important pieces of life. You did that through this mission statement and I am so very glad you decided to participate!!

Sounds like a great mission to me!

I think I am going to get addicted to your blog. Life is not limited to (insert profound announcer voice) ‘deep spiritual thoughts’. Sometimes it is about gardens and cooking and joy and just a hodgepodge of things. What little I’ve seen of your blog so far makes me giggle, you have my kind of humor!

  7. Amanda says:

The honest simplicity of your mission is refreshing and lovely! I always enjoy seeing all of the ways you shine a light on His creations. You are giften in many, many ways.

    God bless-

This is my first visit to your blog. I like what you said. We are all unique in what we offer and we can each glorify God when we use the gifts he has given.

  11. Shanda says:

I think it’s awesome that people realize you’re a Christian without you actually bringing it up. That is the best. It means you’re living out your faith in a way where words aren’t necessary, actions speak louder.

I will definitely be back. My friend and I are (hopefully) taking a stab a planting a vegetable garden this fall. Your photos are truly inspiring!

  12. Cindy says:

  13. Miranda says:

God wants our honesty. He is pleased to watch us grow into what He wants us to become. Thank you for being sincere, and allowing Him to be honored in your blog, I enjoyed reading your thoughts.

Thank you as well for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment!

  14. Cindy Swanson says:

Dlyn, I don’t think an organization (or a blog) has to be “overtly Christian” to have a mission statement…most companies do have one. It’s simply a statement about what that organization is all about, its purpose. So you did a great job with yours! :)

  15. Trish (wheresthebox) says:

I appreciate your comment on my blog mission post and really like what you have shared about how your faith impacts your blog. Mine is not overtly spiritual either, although God is (hopefully) at the center of all that I do.

BTW, I love your photography. It’s very nice to meet you.
