The very last thing to bloom for me each year are these crazy, extravagant little things. They are commonly called Toad Lilies, but the botanical name is Tricyrtis hirta. They bloom so late that some years an early frost does them in before the flowers can open. This year, they are actually a bit early – because of all the rain during the summer I imagine. They seem to think they need to really close out the year with a bang, so they have spots, and rings and stuff that sticks out and fuzzy parts.A nice final hurrah, if you ask me.

I love that flower. I’ve never seen it around here. Did you plant it special, or is it a local plant?
Beautiful- although I love what fall has to offer us.
I love that. I have never seen anything like that. That would be beautiful for a wedding. But, probably not very feasible. I guess they are wild?
Toad lilies are a cultivate perennial – you have to plant them. They do spread out a bit, but not very fast.
Beautiful!
Have I missed the Squash People this summer?
That is so unique! What a treat.
Lovely. Such beauty at the end of the season is nice.
Very beautiful.
