I didn’t forget – I just wanted to wait for Sunday, cause this will get you rocking and thanking God that He gave you ears to hear. Twenty five years or so ago, when I first became a Christian, it was kind of a struggle to find music I could relate to a whole lot. “Church” music became an acquired taste for me, something I appreciate much more now than I did back then. Along the way I found artists playing music that was a spiritual blessing while still appealing to my little old old rock and roller, blues loving soul. Glenn Kaiser has been a favorite for years. You oughta turn up your speakers just a mite before you click the play button on this one.
Here are a few of his albums that I keep in my music mix most of the time
A “best of” with lots of his most played cuts: Glenn Kaiser Blues Heaven II
Hymns – my new favorite of his: Glenn Kaiser Bound for Glory
blessings on your day ….
See this? It’s the little run-off creek that is right outside my back door. It only runs if the ground is very saturated with water. That water right there was snow just a few days ago, before the weather warmed up a bit, finally. Not that it has stayed warm, cause it was snowing again this very morning. But – I’m not complaining about the weather – I’m looking on the bright side! Water that used to be snow! Now these poor snowdrops have been through the wringer this spring. They have emerged, only to be buried with snow again, no fewer than four times in the last couple weeks. Do we hear them complaining? Nope. These right here? Larry’s crocuses. Ever an impatient soul, Larry doesn’t like to wait for stuff to happen, so he planted his crocuses on top of the septic tank where the ground is warmer than anywhere else on the place. We won’t go into the fact they are planted in straight lines – the man is a carpenter and he likes things to come out evenly. When he’s not looking, I go out and poke some in the ground in scattered spots. “Look honey – your crocuses are naturalizing!”And what might this be? The beginning emergence of daffodils? Tulips? Hyacinths, maybe? None of the above – that is garlic! We just used the last of the 2010 garlic the other day, so I would call that a successful experiment. He planted twice as much last fall, and now it is all coming up.
Spring is coming Spring is coming Spring is coming Spring is coming Spring is coming
I said on Twitter the other day that I am probably the last food blogger on the planet to try this bread making method, but from the responses I got, I guess I’m not the very last. This stuff is absolutely delicious though, and so easy that anyone can get a great result. I’m not going to put the actual recipe on my blog, but you can go to the Artisan Bread in Five Minutes website, and get the original.
You do need a baking stone of some kind, but that is a very useful thing to have anyway. I have this one: Old Stoned 16-Inch Round Oven Pizza Stone I just leave it in my oven all the time, and it’s very durable, showing no wear at all, after nearly two years of weekly use.
This could not be any simpler. Measure out the dry ingredients.Add lukewarm water.Mix together. You leave it out on the counter for a couple hours, then stick it in the fridge for up to 14 days, using it as you need it. My big, ugly pink bowl is the perfect size for a batch of this – 6 quarts. Again – go to the link above to find the actual recipe and directions for mixing, storing, shaping and baking. It comes out with a rich, crackly brown crust and a moist, chewy interior. The first time I made it, it was used up in the 3 days, but this time, I left it to mellow for 6 days, and the flavor definitely improves over time. This loaf could have actually baked a few minutes longer, as you can see by the slightly darker band right above the bottom crust, but it is still really good.Don’t be the last person on the internet to try this!
And, if you are interested, there are some more yeast bread recipes here.
Let’s hear it for consistency! This makes two weeks in a row where I have done what I said I would – we better celebrate while I am on a roll, cause you never know when I might be totally distracted from the whole idea. Anyway – I’ve always enjoyed K. D. Lang & I somehow missed this album previously. She doesn’t just sing a song written by another artist – she totally puts her own spin on it and makes it into something completely fresh. The album contains all songs by Canadian artists and writers – Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Bruce Cockburn and Neil Young, plus some others. This is a perfect album for a quiet evening on the front porch with a nice bottle of Pinot Noir and a sweeping sunset, giving way to a gentle summer night.
Here’s the album on Amazon: K. D. Lang Hymns of the 49th Parallel
And a couple of other really great offerings she has graced us with:
Watershed
Absolute Torch And Twang
Shadowland
And now , I am off to get some clean up done in the yard – have a great Saturday!
