The gang’s all here

After consulting with the resident cows, it was decided that they would have the best chance of convincing Fred and Bessie to give up the their new life on the wild side and come indoors where all sensible cows belong. I herded everyone out onto the porch to wait. It didn’t take long. Within an hour, Fred and Bessie let their curiosity get the better of them and they came up on the porch to investigate. All of the house cows pleaded with Fred and Bessie to join them inside. They regaled them with tales of the bovine merriment to be found within, including late night bacchanalias and an unending supply of Smarties. [believe me, I had no idea that any of this was going on, and I guess I need to check my emergency Smartie supply]
They seemed most drawn to Farmer Fred and his cow, Maud. This only makes sense since Farmers and cows do tend to go together. So, Flea should be relieved to know that fred and Bessie are now safely inside. They have asked to be left alone for the next few days, but have agreed to an interview some time next week. I also had to assure them that they could go out to enjoy the outdoors from time to time. And now, I have quite a situation on my hands, as my cows now insist that they too should allowed to wander freely if they wish. I am not sure what I will do if I need some lotion or a cookie while they are ranging freely in the great outdoors. I never anticipated this kind of trouble, but we will adjust. I guess you can’t keep them down in the kitchen once they have seen the porch!

I’m a blogger, not a cow trapper!

It seemed promising. I looked out the window this morning and there they were!mmmmmmLooks like they aren’t finding much they like to eat out there in the wilds of my hosta bed.hungryBut, then as I go out to try and speak with them, off they go. I didn’t even see which way they went!goneI guess I will have to resort to butter after all. Or as CM suggests, magnets. I am determined to make some progress today. The longer they stay out there, the less likely they are to ever agree to returning to the civilization of human company.

Hiding Holsteins

Well, they are definitely still here. Earlier this morning I spotted them out of the corner of my eye. I came around the corner of the house and saw them hunkered down in a patch of forget-me-nots.I also noticed them enjoying some vinca flowersBut when I tried to approach them, they hurried off before I could reach them.It is a comfort to know that they are still here. I am trying something that might get their attention. One thing I don’t talk about much is my lifelong addiction to Smarties. I cannot be without them for long and if they are so alluring to me, can the cows possibly resist them? I know that Flea suggested butter, but I am giving this a chance first.I would come running if I saw this. I am hoping that F&B will be drawn in too. I will let you know if it gets me anywhere.

Watch what you say Wednesday

Obviously I am running out of word plays on the Wordless Wednesday concept.

We have more juncos than any other bird – so much so that they seem too ordinary to photograph. One advantage of having so many of them though is that they get used to us being outdoors and I can get a lot closer to them. This one was telling me to step off the feeder and be quick about it.
I didn’t plant this daffodil – it came up a good twenty feet from the closest flowerbed and I have no idea where it came from. I did plant this one – a lovely all white once it opens all the way.You can practically sit outside and watch the leaves come out on the trees. These leaves are on one the many wild chokecherry bushes that border the creek.I sit on the back porch to take photos of the birds. I heard this guy calling right up over my head and I was just glad he didn’t poop on me.I have tons of photos of daffodils from the past two weeks but this is one of my favorites – one in vase that Mark picked to bring in for his Mom. Being out in the flowerbeds with him reminded me of this dream I had before he was born.Lots of daylilies coming up everywhere.People oooh and aaah over male cardinals, but I think the females are even prettier a lot of the time.

Be sure to check back later – I am determined to figure out a way to get those silly cows to give up the life they are leading now and come into the house where cows belong!

Fred and Bessie Sighting!

This evening, Fred and Bessie were spotted again. They ran off as soon as they realized we had seen them, but they seem to be in good shape. Tomorrow, we will work on getting them to come in the house again, so Flea won’t worry about them so much. And of course, there are still many unaswered questions, so we will try to get to the bottom of their skedaddling.
