So, I am sitting on the porch last night, enjoying a nice glass of Pico shiraz and watching the shadows stretch out down the yard, when I realize someone is staring at me.Me: Can I help you with something?
Riley: I was looking on your blog while you guys were out earlier…
Me: Oh, I can’t wait to hear this! Riley: Well you still owe me for that post about a Happy Life that didn’t mention me.
Me: I will get to it – it wasn’t that long ago.
Riley: It was 7 months ago!
Me: No way – that was just a week or two ago.
Riley: It was June 26th. That was 7 months ago.
Me: That was one month ago!
Riley: 7 DOG months!
Me: For crying out loud…
Riley: A loooooong time, no matter how you count it.Me: Hmmmmm. Sorry – you know how time just flies right by. I will get to it.
Riley: Whatever.Me: Maybe there is a way I could make it up to you? You can usually think of something…
Riley: Now that you mention it, those Triscuits you’re eating look pretty good.Me: That is all it will take to appease you? A Triscuit?
Riley: Two Triscuits. And don’t leave the hummus off mine this time!Me: That is what this is all about? No hummus on your triscuits?
Riley: I really really like hummus.
Me: Hey, if it will get you off my back, two Triscuits with hummus coming right up!
Riley: I still want to be on your blog though.Me: I have no doubt you will show up there very soon!
I never knew a conversation with a dog could make me laugh out loud so much! Now I’m going to go through my day picturing those eyes. Staring at me. Wanting Triscuits with hummus.
I love the conversations you have with the animals around you! I didn’t know dogs liked hummus – live and learn!
Hummus gives doggies very bad doggy breath. Trust me.
Hallie :)
your view looks like paradise. and your pup-a-roni is too cute. thanks for stopping by my blog and entering the contest. hope you win! :)
You’ve captured my 3 fave things!!
1. Triscuts
2. Hummus
3. Riley
Thanks for making me smile.
p.s. I put hot banana peppers on mine. YUMMMY!! You?
Riley, you are becoming quite an insistent character. Your looks alone cause quite a reaction, and I can imagine feeling defensive with your gaze frightening me into submission. Here, take one. It’s got extra hummus.
That dog has a lot of personality.
Riley is a wonderful conversationalist.
Does he have his own blog?
If not, he deserves one.
Bear((( )))
Go Riley!!! You are a phenomenal conversationalist!
Must be a season of discontent among fur animals as Shania and Macon have been loudly hinting that it’s time for them to be a guest blogger on mine.
This has nothing to do with Riley, so don’t tell him what I said ….. but you have two of the cutest Grandkids there are. I loved Ellyn’s story on her blog about their blueberry pickin’ trip home. It’s so nice they can be so close now. I’m envious. That picture of Mark looking off into the sky …. too cute! That’s what you get for trying to set up a fake photo shoot with a kid! …. been there … done that!
Oh, my Riley and I have those conversations all the time… although my Riley is usually a bit less subtle and goes more like…
Gimme gimme gimme … please please please … see me see me see me???? Lick lick lick
But your’s might have more power over me with that cockeyed ear. Adorable!

That dog is a genius. Give him three triscuits
I LOVE RILEY’S EARS!!!
You really must include your RIley more. He is so obviously deserving….ov more hummus!
I agree with Flea – his ears are just wonderful!
What a character Riley is. A triscuit and hummus eating dog with cool ears and eyes that are boring into my soul. Riley, stop it! Here, take my triscuits, too.
Beautiful view from your wine-drinking chair!
I so wish Squirt would have a bette rconversation with us.. hers usually goes like this… Oh I am so glad you finally came out … NOW wheres my food… never mind the food just give me a treat… and hey could you scratch back here by my tail…see I am way too old to do it myself…
He is adorable!
love your converstaions with him.
hugs laura.
Ps if you have not been to my blog come by I left you a present :)
Good one! Reminds me of my own dog and the things I think he would say to me if he could. Although with him it will mostly be….”have any biscuits?”
I love Riley’s expressive face. And those ears!
Oh Riley, you are a handsome devil!!!!
You put Dr. Doolittle to shame. He should be so lucky to talk to the animals like YOU do! This is darling.
Riley is absolutely adorable! I love the way his right ear tweaks…
Poor Ri-ri. He really should be in your top three favorite things. You know wine, tomatos, Ri-ri.
Mark says, “I wove that dog.”
You go Riley!!!
Take it from Zoei the black lab..”youz might get more triskets if you do not drool like I do!!”
