I play favorites

I know, I know. A mother is supposed to love all of her children equally and show no favoritism. I do have a favorite though and I just can’t help it.And, as daylilies go, this one is not considered to be anything really amazing. “Bountiful Valley”. It was introduced in 1979 and doesn’t have a fancy edge or a bold eyezone or anything like that.It just sits there, day after day for about 6 weeks, churning out one brilliant yellow bloom after another.Do you blame me?

And what is the lovely lady’s name?

I have a whole bed of yellows: Happy Returns, Mary Todd, Hyperion, and September Gold. And a bed of the ubiquitous Stella on the other side of the yard. But I like the buttery yellows better.

I am proud to say a picture of this beauty is hanging on my guest bath wall, grown by, photographed by, and framed by my daughter and given to me for my birthday. I love it!

Yikes Ruth – thanks for the heads-up. Can’t believe I somehow managed to edit out the name for pete’s sake! It is “Bountiful Valley” – now added again to the post itself.

Yup, Mom – one and the same!

And as you will all find out in the weeks to come, I love yellows, reds and oranges when it comes to my daylilies!

So sorry I’ve been away for so long. This photo is stunning, Dlyn. I can certainly see why it’s your favorite. I like the cropping in the first picture. I’d print it big and frame it with a mat. Beautiful!

Hi there. Funny this is your favorite. After my grandpa died 20 years ago, a family friend gave my mom bulbs for these to bloom every summer in his memory. My mom digs them up and takes them with her every time she moves. They’re lovely!
