What can I say Wednesday?

This is a butterfly daisy from one of the big pots I have out front. It is a Proven Winner plant if you are interested. Keep it deadheaded, along with normal watering and fertilizing and it will bloom just about non-stop until the frost gets it.My love affair with ferns continues. These are in my shade garden and the late afternoon light really brings them alive,The lupines are just starting to bloom – this is a Russell’s Red.I wanted to get this shot in before they cut this field later in the week – it is from the hay field that takes up about 1/3 of our property.Although I keep a lot of various kinds of bird feeders all year, you will rarely see me post a photo of a bird on a feeder. I like them much better on branches or on the ground. But right now it is hard to get a hummingbird on anything but a feeder. So here is the first hummer photo of the year – but not the last I am sure!

I LOVE the hummingbird picture. I have never seen one up close before. My ex MIL(but I’m still the favorite DIL–just ask her lol)had hummingbird feeders and I used to enjoy watching out the kitchen window at them. I don’t think she’s able to maintain them anymore with their advanced age so having your picture of the hummingbird is such a treat!

I am surprised you guys haven’t seen them yet Jules & Kate. We have had them for at least 3 weeks. I do have 5 feeders out right now so that may have something to do with it.

Even though I would have preferred a more natural looking shot, I knew everyone would love that little sucker – thanks everyone!

Ness – we see them up very close. They get used to us being outdoors all the time and they fly to the feeders even if we are standing or sitting right there. When I fill the feeders, they practically follow me into the house. I promise there will be many more photos of them this summer!

I enjoyed the pictures. The first hummer got his picture taken. And I thought a worm was what the early bird got.

dlyn, I’ve got to say I have really enjoyed browsing your blog.

Fantastic photos! I’ve never seen a hummingbird so motionless before.

The key to having a hummingbird sit still is to give him someplace to sit. I usually buy feeders with perches, because then they light instead of hovering. I am taking the perches off of some of them now though, because I want to see if I can get some closeups of them hovering.
