  6. susan says:

where did you get the almond flour? is this the trip to wegman’s i need an excuse for…..?

  7. susan says:

and here is a duuumb question-I have whole, raw almonds-roast them? how do I slice them?

  8. Donalyn says:

    Thanks lo!

Sue – I think they do have almond flour at Wegman’s and maybe even at Price Chopper in Owego. It would be with stuff like the Bob’s Red Mill brands probably. They used to carry it at the health food store by Lockheed as well. I think I did buy what I have right now at Amazon though. You can use raw almonds and just grind them up really fine with a food processor. Only pulse though – if you let it run continuously, the oils in the almonds will do bad things. As for sliced almonds, I buy them sliced – I had gotten these for some other recipe and still had some. You would have to have a special gadget of some kind to slice them I think. You could just chop them to put on top and it would be fine. I would not roast them though, because then they might burn when you bake the shortcake – they will get pretty toasty on there anyway.

Thank you. This will be my Sunday project- a trip to W’s is in order (I miss “my” Wegman’s in Lakewood-a short drive-coffe, bagels and the wifi was my Sat pre-shopping ritual)
Your recipes are fantastic and I love the commentary. I’ve been sharing a lot. Love the blog, Dlyn!

  11. Shelby says:

I am certain I would love this. Almond and shortbread are two of my favorite things!

  12. Donalyn says:

Sue – hope you can find the almond flour locally – I checked Price Chopper this week and they didn’t have it there. And an excuse to go to Wegman’s is never a bad thing!

Thanks Megan & Shelby – always love your stuff too :)
