Imagine

I am one of those weird people who actually like winter and snow. I like the cozy feeling of being in my nice warm house when the weather outside is horrible and daunting. I enjoying getting out there to do a bit of shoveling, fill the bird feeders and maybe take a few photos of scenes that catch my fancy. It’s exhilarating to battle the elements [briefly] and then come in the house for a hot drink, followed by whipping up a batch of hearty soup. But then, I work at home, and don’t have to go out and drive on awful roads every day. I can afford to admire winter a bit more than, say, Larry, who not only drives on awful roads, but also works outdoors in every kind of weather most of the year. He’s glad I am home, whipping up that batch of soup though.

On the other hand, today, I want to imagine it looks like this outside. I can’t go out there anyway, with my knee propped on pillows and ice [oh, how I hate icing – I don’t care it if does keep swelling down, it feels dumb to put ice on one’s body when it is 15 degrees outside] I can imagine whatever I darned well want to. I even remember the day I took this – a sultry, pouting August day that later brought us a spectacular thunderstorm to enjoy with cocktail hour.Have a good one – I am off to refill my icepack!

You are weird … but it doesn’t have anything to do with your opinion about ice and snow!

Okay, that was so totally not nice … but I am your little cousin … and I have a role to fulfill! Besides … I’m sure I still owe you for things in the distant past … things like telling me ghosts stores until I was petrified to go by myself into our basement (remember “Who Stole My Hairy Toe”? … that one scared me to death!)

All that said … Happy New Year! It’s good to see you back and I look forward to all the good things to come in 2010! Thanks for the pictures of family and flowers .. both a winner with me!

    Love ‘Ya,
    Cousin Mark

I’m another lover of the snow and winter…for all the reasons you give…and the only time I ended up on crutches was also in the dead of a snowy winter…I actually ended up enjoying my time with my leg up in front of the wood stove with a good book while listening to howling wind at the windows…hope you heal quickly tho and hope it isn’t too painful to allow you to enjoy the pleasures of being forced to rest:)

  3. I’ve posted on at least 2 other blogs today about my love of having 4 distinct seasons and being excited about bitter cold and snow and ice and such. I do love winter. I’d rather be cold than sweating, humid hot.

I knew that there was reason (other than your cooking) for why I liked you. :)

Icing your knee in the middle of winter does seem a bit . . . odd. Maybe you should just head outside and sink that leg into a snowdrift! That would ice it for you! On second thought – stay warm in the house with the ice pack.

Missed this post. It could have been when I took the night off and then it ended up in the bottom of my stack.
Too bad you don’t have one of those CB ice machines like I had. It’s like a little insulated container full of ice and water with a hose that connects to a wrap-around pad for your knee. The only thing you have to do is change out the ice.
Love your explanation of that ‘sultry pouting August day’ that ended with a thunderstorm at cocktail hour. Very very nice.
    I love winter, too.
