This tale is far from finished, but I do have an update that I know you have been eagerly awaiting. Or possibly you have an actual life in which case, you can check out the the earlier installments here and here
On summer evenings, when the day is winding down, and before dinner, we have little thing called cocktail hour where we sit on the porch for awhile and enjoy the sweetness of the cooling air. We also drink wine and gossip about the neighbors driving by, but I prefer you picture us in bucolic splendor. But we are not the only ones who enjoy a peaceful interlude at the end of the day.Mr and Mrs Wren often join us these days. They are waiting for their babies to hatch and once that happens, I have a feeling their calm will be shattered. For now though, they can enjoy the same peace and quiet that we do.
Okay – I am jealous of your beautiful flowers! Are those Clematis?
It must be so fun to watch your wren family. Just think of when those babies start peeking out!
I can attest to the fact that once the babies are born all peace and quiet is forever gone. On the other hand when we get to have cocktail hour we get to watch the kids play instead of birds and gardens. We also get to drag things back out of Anna’s mouth. That is fun too. She tried to eat a japanese beetle the other night. She was mad when we took it away.
What a beautiful way to end the day. I am so jealous, however, that the weather is nice enough to enjoy sitting outside. It is over 100 here and Fall can’t get here fast enough for me!
I also have a long standing connection with wrens as my grandma claimed that the wrens always came back from the winter right before my birthday and I got yearly reports on the wrens arriving. They were never late.
I can totally relate to this post. I also have the cocktail hour tradition on the porch with my husband. There is just something about a porch in the country on a summer night…. We do not have wren’s but hummingbirds and Hawks! Well, we might have Wren’s if I would get off my patootie and put up a bird feeder or two. I can hear them all in the woods, screaming for a treat….

Cocktail hour is always muddled by my screaming babies who seem to always starving…oh well.
What a gorgeous scene you’ve posted. I love that clem.
Do let us know when the wren babies are born.
I am in awe of the beauty you live amongst!
I love my wren families! They are so vocal;) I love cocktail time just as much. Your garden looks beautiful. I think y’all have had much more rain than we have down here in SW CT. Everything is drying up.
yep, nothing like babies to wreck that peace and quiet! I can totally relate.
Keep us informed! It has been a crazy weekend. But I am back. Have a great day!
I’m right there with you…cocktails. And after those wren babies hatch, will those two EVER need a sip of the sweet (spiked) nectar! Your yard looks wonderful!
Is that Jackmanii? The clematis is gorgeous. One more thing to envy and plan a space for, huh? :) I think I’ll go pour myself a glass of wine …
those wrens know how to live! I agree that clematis is gorgeous!
So sweet! I have something for you at my place!
