I have no idea how I ended up with this shot – it was taken in the middle of a sun-shiny day, not in the dark. It is my only near-white daylily and the name is why I bought it: “Gentle Shepherd”. No way I could pass that up!
I will get a better shot of it in the next couple days – I actually did go out and do some weeding early this morning, rather than taking photos and by the time I got out with the camera this one was looking a little worse for wear. I snapped a few shots anyway and this one turned out with this intriguing look. It is my home photo for Lauren today, because of the name – cause I know He is watching over her. Remember to pray for her this week, okay?

Blog Mission Tour
I read a lot of different kinds of blogs. Photography, gardening, cooking humor, music, personal, spritual. This has become a recent favorite. She is doing a blog tour this week and I decided to participate. The challenge is to create and share a “mission statement” for your blog, publish it and link to the tour so that others can come and share in what you are doing.
I admit to struggling with this somewhat. My blog is not overtly Christian after all. I am at a loss when it comes to a exact description actually. So, I have been thinking about it a lot since first seeing the post about the tour. For awhile, I decided not to participate at all, because it seemed like I would not fit. But the idea would not leave me alone and I usually consider that a nudge from the Lord – kind of shoving me in the direction He wants me to go. Often, this consists of Him hurling billboard-sized “signs” in front of me – repeatedly, until I get it. “Really, Lord? Are you sure?”
On the other hand, people often seem to realize I am a Christian, without my actually having to bring it up, and I guess that is a good thing. And it is not that I am not capable of constructing a blog that would be centered on writing about faith and the struggles inherent in a deep walk. I have taught/lead Bible Studies for years and have published articles on a wide variety of Christian topics. Doing that genre of blog just isn’t what this one seems to be about. There are many many people publishing wonderful blogs about their faith and aspects of living as a Christian in this fallen world. I get a lot from reading them. But this blog is what seems drawn from me these days.
So, what is my “mission” then?
I think it is this: To share my joy in what God has given me. He made a very big world and I occupy a tiny piece of it. I’m grateful for what I get to share in His creation and every day, I try to find a way to convey a bit of that to those who come to visit. His gifts to me are mercy beyond measure and far more favor and blessing in my life that I could ever come close to deserving. If I can share a little bit of that with some friends, old and new, then I will consider my blog a success.
You also might want to check out Becoming Me’s blog and consider joining the tour – it makes you think about what you are doing and is definitely not limited to Christian blogs.
Saturday – still in the other garden
Okay – I got up off the ground and we are back in Larry’s veggie garden today. It is Saturday after all – we spend that day in the garden, right?
Alien onions. Resistance is futile – you will be assimilated!
Burpless cucumbers are so polite, you can bring them out for the ladies from church without fear of social embarrasement from the antics in which other types of cucumbers engage, like burping names or the entire alphabet.
Ace green peppers – though we leave most of them to turn red and rich.
In just a few weeks, there will be enough of these guys to start making refrigerator pickled hot peppers. In my usual generous style, I will be sharing the recipe.
These little darlings are my favorite – jalapenos!
Portofino zucchinis. Empty out your back seat before you come over, ok?
Yellow squash. Double ditto on that back seat thing.
There is a lot more down there, but these are the most photogenic veggies right now. I am saving a nice big bowl of new red potatoes for Cathy’s Potato Ho-down, my entry for which will be up on Monday. Enjoy your Saturday!
Skywatch Friday

My first week with Tom Wigley’s Friday Skywatch group. You can go to his blog to join in or just to check out all the photos. Here is my entry for this week – I am sure you are shocked that it is the sky seen through my garden. 3:00PM on a July afternoon in Upstate NY. Another reason for my neighbors to say “Why is she laying on the ground with that camera? Don’t you think she would get up and pull a few weeds every now and again?”
What’s a wordle?
It’s addicting fun is what it is. Mental P Mama recommended giving it a try so I did.
You can just put in your blog address and let it generate a word cloud automatically:
Or you can enter words you like and have a little more control:
Go make one!
