When he was in the Navy, my Dad bought a really nice 35mm camera somewhere in Europe. Unfortunately, all the photos they took were developed as slides. I think they lasted longer probably and I am pretty sure they were cheaper too. Looking at family photos involved a huge production of getting out the projector and the screen and loading all the slides in the trays and yelling at all of us to sit down and stop making
unidentifiable “animal” shadows on the screen. We usually looked at them when our Grandparents came to visit from California, but I don’t remember seeing them very often.

When my old scanner died last spring, I made sure that the new one had the ability to scan slides and asked my Mom & Dad to send me some so I could see how well it worked. They just sent a few for starters, but I am so hooked already. So lets take a little jaunt down memory lane.

Christmas morning – I was 3 and my little sister Weezee was a little over 1. She was born with a hip problem that necessitated wearing that brace until she was 18 months old. She learned to walk in that thing! As you can see, my interest in kitchen accessories seemed to begin quite young. I actually have pretty clear memories of playing with that set of dishes and pans.<img decoding="async" style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 500px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_8YuevXJXjqg/SRJqrfam66I/AAAAAAAADsQ/6vORaa6wAGA/fam3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5265388209749552034" />My Mom thinks this one was taken about a year later – Weezee and I with our cousin Paul. That sofa we are sitting on was in the house when my folks bought it. Covered in maroon velvet, it was the Queen Mary of sofas – huge and very comfy. When they redid the living room, my parents gave the sofa and it’s matching chair to my grandparents to use in their cottage on Cayuga Lake. Years later, Larry and I ended up with it and we only got rid of it because we moved to a place with a smaller living room and it just didn’t fit in there.<img decoding="async" style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 500px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_8YuevXJXjqg/SRJqZn_lUiI/AAAAAAAADsI/Mr7QV3aYb8Y/fam2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5265387902814474786" />1962 – this is my Dad, holding the oldest of my 3 brothers. Louise and I were never sure just why they kept bringing home more boys, but no one was listening to us.<img decoding="async" style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 500px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_8YuevXJXjqg/SRLlGggohrI/AAAAAAAADsY/sOWTP7exe48/fam4.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5265522814318315186" />And on the same day, my Mom with us girls. I can say without equivocation, all 3 of us would love to be that thin again!<img decoding="async" style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 500px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_8YuevXJXjqg/SRJqZRChtFI/AAAAAAAADsA/kgyqpzohbT0/fam1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5265387896652805202" />I got such a kick out of seeing these – probably way more than you guys did, but I promise not to bore you with more of them too often. They make a nice post on a morning when we woke up to find that our coffee maker had given up the ghost. I am thanking the Lord for Amazon Prime because I have to work here at home all day, but for $3.99 shipping, we will have a brandy-new one tomorrow. In the meantime, we are squeezing coffee grounds through old t-shirts, huddled around a small fire, staring bleakly into space. Not having good coffee first thing in the morning gives me a rather dim view of life.

Growing up, my folks took lots of photos of us.
