Front Door/Back Door Meme – December!

I am doing this a little early this month because next week I will be busier than this week and also Fred and Bessie wanted to play along and they will only be here for a few days. Have you entered their giveaway yet? You should because it ends at midnight tonight. Please click here and comment to enter to win a Fred & Bessie magnet. [You can also link from your blog, Twitter the contest or mention it on Facebook for extra entries – just leave a separate comment on that post for each method you use to send people to enter – for up to 4 entries per person.]

I’m glad I took these yesterday, because it warmed up through the day and now we have no snow at all! But it sure was pretty when the sun came up:
A nice sunrise out backBut, as I mentioned, Fred and Bessie wanted to get in on the action, so they climbed up on the porch railing to take a look. They liked this even better – the sunrise is showing and you know cows like to get up nice and early.

Have you done the Front Door/Back Door Meme? Here are the rules, if you would like to join in, plus a link to take a look at past months here.
The guidelines are simple:
This is a photography meme.
1. Step out your front door and take a picture.
2. Step out your back door and take a picture.
3. Put them on your blog, along with the rules.
4. If there are things in the photos that you particularly like or dislike, you can point them out, or just explain what we are seeing. Maybe changes over the seasons or some junk in your neighbor’s yard that drives you nuts.
5. Tag as many or few people as you like – preferably at least one though.
6. Do it again next month if you like.
Could not be easier, right? I don’t care where you live, what you see when you step out your door is different than what the rest of us see outside ours and that is what makes it interesting.

Computers 2

Thanks for the words of support! Fortunately, I am pretty good about backing up files, so I didn’t lose anything at all. In fact, I am going to browse the internet for crafts involving the use of outdated back up CDs and DVDs. And copies of obsolete operating systems back to 1994. Why can’t I throw them away? Is it some kind of paranoid thing in my ancestry that keeps me hanging on to old technology? Like if the power goes out and we have have to go back to a hand pump instead of the submersible in the well? If some sort of apocalyptic crunch comes, I don’t think Windows 95 is going to do me much good. Or Office 97. Or these floppy disks that I don’t even have a drive for any longer. Still. What if there is something important on there? No – better save them just in case.

So – no recipe today. I am reinstalling the 793 crucial pieces of software I keep on my computer. Can’t leave anything out – what if I need it?

We Interrupt Your Regularly Scheduled Life

‘Cause like your computer has gone wacko, man. Like you need to reinstall your OS. And all your programs. Like for working. And stuff. So no blogging for you until that is all taken care of.

The above is the note I got from my life this morning. I will blog a very tasty recipe later today if I get everything working. In the meantime – go enter Fred & Bessie’s giveaway from yesterday, when they suddenly showed up on my doorstep after spending some time in NYC with Daryl.

Look Who Showed Up for the Party! [and Giveaway #3]

The other day, I was just kind kicking back here in the country, when I heard a terrible racket out by the driveway. I ran out there, but just caught a glimpse of what I could have sworn was a – well, a cow. Now, we live next door to Larry’s folks, who have been farmers forever, but last year when his Dad became ill, all the cows and cattle were sold, so seeing one in my yard now was just a little odd. Then I realized that there was something white on the ground – a note!Hmmmmm. What could it mean? I wasn’t completely sure, but I have had some visitors who were just a bit over the top with their butter consumption before, so I thought it best to be prepared – I stocked up with plenty of the yellow stuff and sat back to see what was coming next.

Then yesterday, when we came home from church, we noticed some strange looking prints in the snow on the porch steps – they seemed to go up and then back down again. Some small rodent or maybe a new bird species I thought. We came in and had lunch and as I was enjoying a fresh cup of coffee, I caught sight of some movement up near the road. It reminded me of something I had seen before. I grabbed my camera and ran up to the road to see what was going on. Look who I found! My old friends Fred and Bessie!Quite unlike their last visit, I had no trouble getting them to come down to the house. The fact it was only 17ยบ out may have influenced their fast trip to the house. They beat me to the porch and urged me to hurry up and open the door.Only moments later, they were happily diving into some chocolate and “cowamel” as they insist it is called. They seemed to be happy with the butter supply as well. Once they had filled their bellies, they were happy to bed down and that is where they are still – snoozing away. I think life in the big city must have worn them out.Now – it turns out that Fred and Bessie wanted to come visit me now because they want to help me celebrate my Blog-o-Versary! I could not be happier to have them around for all the jocularity and merriment we have going on this month. But they aren’t stopping there – Fred and Bessie asked to do a Giveaway of their very own – one of the lovely magnets from their store. Their Mom, Flea has a store with some really cute little items featuring our favorite bovines. Here is what Fred and Bessie would like you to do – go hereto check out the store, maybe even pick up a little memento of your own, and then come back and leave a comment, telling us which item you like best. This giveaway runs until 12 midnight EST on Wednesday – Fred and Bessie will draw a random winner Thursday, via the Random Integer thingie. Again – sorry but we have to limit to US addresses only. Maybe by this time next year, my blog will be prosperous enough to ship to other countries! Good luck to all who enter and again, you can earn an extra entry by linking to the contest from your own blog, Twitter, or Facebook – just be sure to leave a separate comment for each time you mention the giveaway.

Fred and Bessie have told me a few things they are interested in doing while they are here, so I think we in for some fun with them this week. Have a great day everyone!
