{"id":2921,"date":"2009-09-03T07:30:41","date_gmt":"2009-09-03T11:30:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dlynz.com\/?p=2921"},"modified":"2009-09-02T22:14:43","modified_gmt":"2009-09-03T02:14:43","slug":"spicy-zucchini-fries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/dlynz.com\/?p=2921","title":{"rendered":"Spicy Zucchini &#8220;Fries&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Just a quickie today.\u00a0 While you are reading this, we are at the NY State Fair with Ellyn, Jason and the short people.\u00a0 I am probably eating a deep fried oreo or a cinnamon roll bigger than Riley&#8217;s head.\u00a0 Yum.\u00a0 I promise to bring back some photos of stuff like the famous yearly butter sculpture and freaky looking chickens with poofy hairdos.\u00a0\u00a0 Do I know how to treat you right or what?<\/p>\n<p>This is a fast and simple dish\u00a0and it is almost silly to call it a recipe.\u00a0 I can&#8217;t think of another name for it though, so recipe it is.\u00a0 You may be looking for something a little different to do with all of those zukes your garden is churning out and this fills the bill.\u00a0 I often whip up a bowl of these for my lunch.\u00a0 I apologize in advance for the missing photos of the\u00a0squash\u00a0actually cooking &#8211; the light was awful and they came out looking like I was work in the bottom of\u00a0 coal mine.\u00a0 Not good.\u00a0 You will have to rely on my\u00a0vast powers of description I guess.<\/p>\n<p>First &#8211; get a zucchini or two.\u00a0 Cut it [them] into spears like this and sprinkle generously with salt and pepper. Heat 1\/4 cup olive oil in a saute pan, and careful lay the squash in a single layer in the pan.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2922\" title=\"1\" src=\"http:\/\/dlynz.com\/public_html\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/1.jpg\" alt=\"1\" width=\"600\" height=\"323\" srcset=\"http:\/\/dlynz.com\/public_html\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/1.jpg 600w, http:\/\/dlynz.com\/public_html\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/1-300x161.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/>You want to get some nice color on each surface of the squash, but you don&#8217;t want it to get burned, so keep an eye on it while you get your spicy stuff ready.  This little bowl has about 1\/4 teaspoon each of salt, granulated garlic, onion powder, chili powder, smoked paprika, cumin, and dried oregano.  You can put whatever you like in yours of course.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/dlynz.com\/public_html\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/2.jpg\" alt=\"2\" title=\"2\" width=\"600\" height=\"363\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2923\" srcset=\"http:\/\/dlynz.com\/public_html\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/2.jpg 600w, http:\/\/dlynz.com\/public_html\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/2-300x181.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/>As soon the squash is nicely browned on all sides. drain briefly on paper towels, and sprinkle with the spice mixture and toss to coat.
