{"id":1965,"date":"2009-05-11T09:24:30","date_gmt":"2009-05-11T13:24:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dlynz.com\/?p=1965"},"modified":"2009-05-11T09:24:30","modified_gmt":"2009-05-11T13:24:30","slug":"how-does-your-bathtub-grow-2009","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/dlynz.com\/?p=1965","title":{"rendered":"How Does Your Bathtub Grow? 2009"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Remember <a href=\"http:\/\/dlynz.com\/?p=235\" target=\"_blank\">last year<\/a>\u00a0?\u00a0 The bathtub in our master bath is a handy spot to hold plants for a bit, until I can get them planted.\u00a0 It has a skylight right over it, so there is plenty of light and being in a bathroom, tends to be a bit more humid than the rest of the house.<\/p>\n<p>This year though, I think we are setting a record.\u00a0 I fell prey to the warm weather we&#8217;ve been having and went a little wild at some of my favorite plant nurseries. I usually wait a couple weeks later than this to buy very much, because our last frost date is the first week of June.\u00a0 How can I resist this, though?\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1966\" title=\"begonia\" src=\"http:\/\/dlynz.com\/public_html\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/begonia.jpg\" alt=\"begonia\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"http:\/\/dlynz.com\/public_html\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/begonia.jpg 600w, http:\/\/dlynz.com\/public_html\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/begonia-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/>Or all of this either<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1967\" title=\"bathtub\" src=\"http:\/\/dlynz.com\/public_html\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/bathtub.jpg\" alt=\"bathtub\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\" srcset=\"http:\/\/dlynz.com\/public_html\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/bathtub.jpg 600w, http:\/\/dlynz.com\/public_html\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/bathtub-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/>These have all been sitting on the front porch, hardening off, in anticipation of being planted in the pots I scatter through my flower beds. But, after weeks of above average temperatures, last night, tonight, and tomorrow night we are getting pretty heavy frosts. So into the tub go the non-stop begonias, the nasturtiums, the herbs, the coleus and the marigolds. [and lettuce &#8211; if you are buying a whole big bunch of plants, it&#8217;s a good idea to bring home a few things for the veggie garden too.  it&#8217;s not for nothing that I&#8217;ve been married for for 32 years.] It gives us the feeling of showering in a tropical rainforest for a few days.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, this spot was reserved for a big batch of perennials I have coming this week.
