I had bought too many pears, and there was just a little Chablis left from a bottle I had saved for Ellyn [Chablis is a little sweet for my liking], and I had just bought some candied ginger &#8211; those things were all just begging to get into a baking dish together.\u00a0 I love making &#8220;crisp&#8221; type desserts &#8211; like <a href=\"http:\/\/dlynz.com\/?p=452\" target=\"_blank\">Apple Cheese Crisp<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0 It&#8217;s easier than a pie, but still very fruity with a nice combination of textures.\u00a0\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1324\" title=\"1\" src=\"http:\/\/dlynz.com\/public_html\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/1.jpg\" alt=\"1\" width=\"600\" height=\"384\" srcset=\"http:\/\/dlynz.com\/public_html\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/1.jpg 600w, http:\/\/dlynz.com\/public_html\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/1-300x192.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/>Mix 1 cup of Chablis [or other white wine, or apple juice] and 3 tablespoons light brown sugar, in a small saucepan, and simmer over medium heat, until it is reduced by half. Pour into the bottom of a 2 quart shallow baking dish. Peel and core 3 large pears, cut into thick slices, and arrange the slices evenly in the dish. Cut candied ginger into slivers [sprinkle with a bit of sugar to keep the little pieces from sticking together quite so much], measure two tablespoons and scatter over the pears.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1325\" title=\"2\" src=\"http:\/\/dlynz.com\/public_html\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/2.jpg\" alt=\"2\" width=\"600\" height=\"384\" srcset=\"http:\/\/dlynz.com\/public_html\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/2.jpg 600w, http:\/\/dlynz.com\/public_html\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/2-300x192.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/>Using a pastry cutter, or two knives, mix<br \/>\n1\/2 cup quick cooking oats<br \/>\n1\/2 cup all purpose flour<br \/>\n1\/3 cup light brown sugar<br \/>\n4 tablespoons cold butter, but into cubes<br \/>\n1\/4 teaspoon salt<br \/>\n1\/2 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg<br \/>\nIt will have a crumbly, streusel Spread the oat\/flour mixture evenly over the pears, and give the dish a little shake to settle some of the topping down between the pears.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1326\" title=\"3\" src=\"http:\/\/dlynz.com\/public_html\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/3.jpg\" alt=\"3\" width=\"600\" height=\"384\" srcset=\"http:\/\/dlynz.com\/public_html\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/3.jpg 600w, http:\/\/dlynz.com\/public_html\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/3-300x192.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/>Bake at 350\u00ba for 30 to 35 minutes, until the top is lightly browned and the pears are bubbly, but not mushy-soft. Cool at least 20 minutes before serving.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1327\" title=\"4\" src=\"http:\/\/dlynz.com\/public_html\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/4.jpg\" alt=\"4\" width=\"600\" height=\"384\" srcset=\"http:\/\/dlynz.com\/public_html\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/4.jpg 600w, http:\/\/dlynz.com\/public_html\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/4-300x192.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/>It&#8217;s heaven I tell you! Light, not too sweet and the combination of the ginger in the pears and the nutmeg in the topping is very special.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1328\" title=\"5\" src=\"http:\/\/dlynz.com\/public_html\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/5.jpg\" alt=\"5\" width=\"600\" height=\"384\" srcset=\"http:\/\/dlynz.com\/public_html\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/5.jpg 600w, http:\/\/dlynz.com\/public_html\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/5-300x192.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/>It&#8217;s great with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, or just naked.<\/p>\n<p>I made sure to buy too many pears this week too!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s a rare thing that I make something only once before blogging about it, but this came out perfectly the very first time, so why wait?
